September 29, Oct. 6 &13,  Trends in the Copper Content of Pennies Through Time
Experiment text:  Lab 3- Trends in Copper Content of Pennies through time
Prelab assignment: See weekly details below
Safety:  Students must wear safety goggles at all times and gloves while handling acid. This procedure requires strong (6-16 M) nitric acid (MSDS- HNO3) that reacts with copper to form nitrogen (di)oxide (MSDS- NO;  MSDS- NO2).  Strong acids must be handled ONLY in the hood with the sash down.  Flush immediately with water if contact occurs  and inform TA or professor.

Safety:  Students must wear safety goggles at all times. This procedure requires strong oxidizer, KMnO4 (MSDS-KMnO4), and 6 N sulfuric acid (MSDS- H2SO4).  Do not contact or ingest!  If contact occurs, flush with water and inform TA or professor.

Safety:  Hot plates are hot, do not touch.  Melt plastics only in fume hoods.
